16oz can with a black top - no date
Pours up like root beer, but with immaculate lacing and a big head, tons of lace. Smells like cheap cologne in the best way, along with vanilla and a SERIOUS hop blast. Kinda light and slick with oil in feel, but the taste... oh man, this rules. The best I could ask for from a black ale - it blasts you away with musky hops up front but fades into all the best dark malt flavors imaginable along with the best rye has to offer - a little spicy citrus-y hazelnutty undefinable that I only get from the very best rye beers. In the finish I get the Belgian yeast that you'd expect from the style, along with powerful and very bitter hop, and spicy alcohol and oak and a musky yeast-filled shotgun blast to the taste buds... the Belgian yeast aside, this is a straight up savory dark rye beer that I could drink all day, and is straight up dangerous at 7.8%
This stuff RULES

From a 16oz can:
Appearance: Dark brown, good foamy head.
Smell: Wood, vanilla, chocolate, vegetal hop note.
Taste: Chocolate, light citrus to start. Wood and rye-like spiciness in the finish along with light touch of citrus pith. Nice feel, not too heavy or too light.
Overall: Really interesting and tasty beer from Hammerheart. Kind of reminds me of a cross between a black IPA and a czech dark lager. The barrel aging gives more of a woody note instead of a boozy note like many BA beers. Really cool experimental beer!
