A bright, lightly smoked lager, light in color and body with a bold Sabro hop addition and a touch of Sugar Rush Peach hot peppers for character to warm us through the coldest months.

Brewed in collaboration with the brilliant brewers of Old Irving Brewing.

Appearance: Pours a clear, rich orange color with a strong white head. SRM of 11.

Aroma: Strong aromas of smoke upfront. Not overpowering though. Some fruity esters within.

Flavor: Strong flavors of bread malt, crackers, grains all within a nice smokey profile. Only hints of fruit. Bread malts on the finish.

Feel: Medium-bodied, strong carbonation. A slightly spicy touch lingers on the palate.

Overall: Drinking this one a little bit older but nicely done. Smokey but not overly done. A light spicy note off the end from the hot peppers. Drinkable. Nicely done here. (Rating: 3.77)

One of the last cans to come out of the Lino lakes brewery. Big time bummer.

White head. Lace. Copper hued dark golden color.

Peppers, smoke, char, ash. This is a great rauchbier and the peach peppers are fantastic. I am unsure if they are meant to be a bit fruity, but there is definitely a fruit flavor here.

Smooth, medium bodied, easy drinking, flavorful. A good one to close the book on.

Rest in peace Hammerheart.
Clear amber pour with a 3 finger slightly off white head. The head retention is quite decent, and there's a good amount of lacing on the glass.
The nose reminds me of a camp fire. The smoke smell is pleasing, but not too strong - not that I don't like a "too strong" smoke smell from a beer. There's also a hint of sweetness in the aroma.
Taste - Up front I get a malty biscuit flavor, which has a slight sweetness to it. The smoke then hits, and is very pleasing. There's a pepper heat that also hits, that isn't overpowering. Finally, a bitterness from the hops that rounds out this beer. All flavors work well together and compliment each other.
The body is full, The flavors from the smoke, and pepper, and hops linger in my throat in a pleasing way that feels really good.
This is an amazing beer. I love smoked beers, and they really did an amazing job with this one.

16oz can into a tall Lager glass.
L: Pours relatively clear orange caramel w/a 1" off white rocky head, decent retention down to thick edge foam, mild carbonation, light sticky lacing.
S: Caramelized malts, light smoke, musty pepper, earthy, lightly grassy, a suggestion of ripe fruit.
T: Malts, caramelized malts, ripe peach, wood smoke, pepper capsaicin heat, musky pepper, bread dough, light citrus, woody, grassy, gently sweet. Well malted med-long finish.
F: Snappy, smooth, creamy, semi-juicy, medium heavy bodied mouth feel w/well balanced & quilted hot pepper heat. It has a fairly clean med-long lingering finish.
O: An inviting full flavored Lager that isn't too complex. Well articulated flavor facets are tangible, well balanced. Very easy drinking at 7.1% ABV. No alcohol detected. Brewery status is unknown. It is excellent in it's style.

From a 16oz can:

Appearance: Clear dark gold, nice fluffy head. Kind of unusual for a Hammerheart beer to be clear.

Smell: Mild smoke, a deep earthiness like mole sauce.

Taste: Honeyed bread note, then campfire smoke and earthiness. Mild fruity note in the background. Crisp & clean feel. Smoke and a touch of pepper heat in the finish.

Overall: Another awesome beer from Hammerheart. Quite complex in taste, sometimes smoked beers overwhelm with smoke, but this gives an excellent blend of flavors. Yummy!

Snösmältning" is Swedish for "snowmelt" in English.

Clear amber-orange color, nicely carbonated, topped by a stark-white thick head (with airy bubbles up against the glass, with very good retention. It leaves sticky and thick lacing as it slowly recedes.

Aroma is, as promised, smoke – campfire smoke – backed by fruity hops/malts. A slight hint of smoked meat.

The taste is, again as promised, smoke – lightly done. The initial taste is malt, a touch of vague fruitiness, and light smoke. No bittering to speak of. The middle and finish brings out a bit more, including the flavor (but not the heat) of peppers There is a brightness in the taste as well, reminiscent of north woods. The finish is dry. The aftertaste is where the pepper heat begins to build; even so, it remains at a level of pleasant warmth making for a very enjoyable sipping lager (if that is your bent – it is light enough and dry enough to also be a quite quaffable beer. I’m preferring to let the flavors linger.)

The mouth feel is lager-thin, but smooth, spiced up (so to speak) by the heat.

Overall, this beer underscores the loss to the Twin Cities brewing scene at the closing of the HammerHeart Lino Lakes brewery. Another wonderful, well-balanced smoked beer from them. As I’ve said before, I do hope they pursue the contract brewing they previously announced with due speed. Speaking selfishly, I’m much rather they do that than open a new small brewing operation up north!

16oz can. No dating information found, but label still lists this as brewed and canned at the address in Lino Lakes.
Clear, deep amber colored body. Thin white head. Thin shafts of lacing.
Aroma is campfire embers smoke, smoked meat, and darkly toasted malts.
Taste continues with the smoked meat, along with slight pepper heat, evergreen sap, and a whiff of coconut (Sabro). The tongue tightens with the aftertaste.
Medium mouth feel, with a touch of creaminess. Slight pepper burn on the tongue. Very good carbonation.
Definitely a Hammerheart beer with its impressions of a campfire sojourn near a rough hewn cabin in the deep evergreen woods during the winter solstice.
