Thanks to Cassie for surprising me with one of the first bottled beers from this new NSW brewery. 750ml champagne bottle, into a Lost Abbey Teku.
Pours an orange colour with a nice beige head on top that seems to sit forever at about half a finger on top. Some spots of lacing from the foam of this nice looking beer.
Smells initially of pineapple and dried pineapple. Then the orange assault begins. Orange, orange peel and orange juice are all mixed together. Plenty of citrus going on.
Tastes of orange and citrus with just a faint bit of back end spice at the end. Becomes a little one dimensional in paying its homage to the style's British origins.
Biggish beer. Took me almost an hour to get through. Medium to big bodied with a citrus assault that keeps coming. Seems to lack the bitterness at the end to cut through it a bit better. Still its nice tasting a beefy English IPA for a change.
Good first up bottled beer from these guys. Caught me a bit by surprise that they were bottling, then even more that it was an English IPA. Could be a bit more drinkable in a sense of having more bitterness to break up the orange and citrus that is ever-present.
