Expect rich chocolate and roast characteristics from our Black Ale mixed with our house made Cold Press utilizing beans from Duluth Coffee Company. We’ve moved to a single source farm in Colombia where the beans are grown and then sent to Duluth Coffee Company to be roasted. Once roasted, we make our cold press coffee in house and infuse that into our Black Ale post centrifuge at a rate of 1 gallon per barrel. Expect the rich chocolate and roast characteristics to blend nicely, bringing the coffee notes to the forefront of your pallet with a pleasantly smooth finish.

Pitch black pour from 12 oz can into snifter. Big, creamy, frothy ,khaki brown head.
Aroma is not real intense, but is predominantly coffee. Also sweet chocolate candy and some roasted malt in the background.
The flavors are much more significant than it smelled. Still not intense. The coffe is definitely at the forefront, but is more of a creamer type. It blends very well wih the roasted barley and not as sweet as I expected chocolate flavors. Not much bitterness in this one. Aftertaste is much more sweet than bitter. No noticeable alcohol.
Body is not quite as creamy as the poor led me to believe. A nice solid medium body though. Seems to have a "cotton mouth" dryness to it though.
Overall, this doesn't say black ale to me. No real noticeable hops. I think this is wonderfully balanced for a coffee stout. Even though the beans are on full display, I would recommend this to another fellow non-coffee drinker. It is an excellent, easy drinking beer with ample amounts of quality flavors that I would love to have again.

Very yummy, probably my favorite coffee beer after the Pryes and Peace Coffee beer. Has a very rich flavor.

An excellent coffee porter in a place that could certainly appreciate it: Duluth MN!

Pitch black opaque body with an oatmeal colored head. Aromas of coffee, roasted malt and earth. Taste adds dark chocolate, but make no mistake the coffee dominates. Feel is chewy yet light, roasty and has plenty of coffee texture. Good all around coffee porter but I liked the non-coffee version better

Dark brown to black body. They say this is a coffee ale but it's definitely not a black IPA, questionable if it's a porter, but pretty sure they would have demarked it as such. It may be somewhat of a brown ale but definitely doesn't have that type of maltiness. Either way, it's strong almost like a porter but definitely has plentiful bitter coffee notes but in a good way. It's cold press based after all.

I got a can of this beer off the single shelf from a grocery store near UW LaCrosse. It poured an opaque dark with ecru ring head that is not leaving much lace. The scent had coffee and roast notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with bright coffee presence. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a great beer.

Appearance: Pours a dark brown almost black with about a finger of light brown foam.
Smell: I love these collaborations with local coffee shops because they make for some lovely beers with great coffee flavor and depth. Roasty and earthy malts with chocolate, vanilla, and dark fruit.
Taste: Taste follows the nose and has a lovely coffee flavor. Roasty, nutty, and chocolate malts without being overly reliant on sweetness. Coffee bitterness is the perfect amount, not overbearing but also not watered down. In addition to the malt flavors vanilla and dark fruit are abundantly present and very enjoyable.
Feel: Medium bodied with correct amount of carbonation. Beer is smooth and despite the dark ale its fairly light.
Overall: This beer is great! I would certainly buy this beer and the brewery again. Often there is so many beers out there, its difficult to know which beer/brewery to choose but this beer and brewery are worth trying again. I hope to see more coffee collaborations in the future.
