pretty standard beer.. didn't notice any bourbon at all .. even my girlfriend could not detect any bourbon.. so I was really struggling to find out if this was barrel aged or not the name made me think it was but the taste did not.. tasted kinda like there bent paddle black with a hint of vinilla.. but not as good as cold press.

On tap. 10 oz into snifter.

Pitch black opaque body that lets no light through. Thin tight-bubbled head that dissipated quickly and leaves only a tiny bit of lacing here and there. It looks fine.

Aroma smacks you in the face with raw unadulterated bourbon and some notes of bourbon that lead to more notes of fiery hot bourbon. Did I mention there's bourbon on the nose? No, seriously, I've never experienced so much raw in-your-face bourbon on the nose of a beer before and it's not particularly enjoyable. Some faint notes of charred oak, harsh tobacco, coffee, and the faintest touch of vanilla. Hmm...

An overcarbed, medium-thin body brings much of the same things the nose brought. And by that, I mean bourbon. Sweet lord. How did this get so out of hand? Too much straight bourbon here for me, and I'm a fan of bba beers. Harsh notes of pipe tobacco emphasize my throat's agony, and leave my mouth hot and dry. Faint touches of coffee and the tiniest bit (had to dig for it) of vanilla try to show themselves, but only make a brief appearance. Damn...

Overall, not a strong effort by one of my favorite breweries. The base Black just doesn't have the "stuff" to stand up to bourbon aging, I think. I appreciate the effort, but overall, I think this is a case where bourbon and beer just weren't meant to dance together.
