Poured from 750ml (1 pint, 9.4 fl oz) bottle into glass.
Dark burgundy colored body, long lasting khaki head, and good coverage of lacing.
Roasted malt, milk chocolate aroma, piney and citrus hops also appear.
Taste includes dark roast, milk chocolate, floral and piney, not much bitterness. Some dark fruit is there, too.
Fuller mouth feel, smooth and balanced. Good carbonation.
A very good example of a black IPA, with the dark malts combining with the zestier hops.

Pours a clear, dark brown colour. Smells like malts, sticky pitted fruits, and a little bitter. Tastes a little toast-y, bitter, balanced, some sticky fruits, and a dry-body throughout.

Poured from a 750 ml bottle into a chalice.
Appearance: Pours jet black with a hint of brown/ruby. Good amount of bubbles and a huge three finger light tan head that slowly settles into a thin creamy patch.
Smell: A roasty and piney balanced aroma of dark malt and earthy hops. Dark roasted malt with a scent of dark chocolate, coffee, toast, biscuit, caramel, and toffee with some yeast. Earthy and floral hops with a scent of pine resin, grass, and spice. Citrus hop hints of orange peel, grapefruit, and lemon. Light hints of candied sugar. A very solid aroma.
Taste: Like it smells, a roasty and earthy balanced taste of dark malt and hops. Dark roasted barley malt with notes of dark chocolate, coffee, biscuit, toast, smoke, caramel, and toffee along with yeast. Earthy and spicy hop notes of pine resin and grass. Some citrus hop notes of grapefruit, orange peel, and lemon. A little candied sugar sweetness. A really good taste.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Fairly oily with a drying finish.
Overall: A really good Black Ale. Bold and balanced dark malt and hop flavors.

Attractive dark beer that leaves a lot of lacing down the glass. Aroma of roasted malt and piney, earthy hops that are well balanced. The flavor is exactly how I like my Black IPAs, as I can taste the black. Flavors of roasted malt, chocolate, bread, caramel, pine, earth, and some citrus all meld beautifully together. Not a huge IPA, but feels big and is nicely carbonated that allows the flavors to come through. For people who do not like the style, this is not going to change your mind, but to others, this is very well done. Just a little expensive.

Big aroma of citrus and pine vs. chocolate and coffee. Roasted taste of bitter chocolate, coffee, and cream, with great citrus and pine notes on top, leading to a bitter, dry finish. Very creamy mouthfeel. This is a straight up the middle Black IPA that balances both sides perfectly. Just how I like them. Nothing truly different about this one, but extremely well executed, and like most of Bent Paddle's beers, very easy to drink.
