We age our Double Black in assorted Bourbon barrels for up to 12 months to achieve a robust and complex beer with a smooth, chocolatey, semi-roasted malt profile that sweetly balances out the doubled strength. From there, the Double Barrel Aged Double Shot Double Black spends 6 months in Heaven Hill Bourbon barrels, then finishes in Buffalo Trace Bourbon Barrels for a highly curated experience. These beers are the pride of Bent Paddle, and our patience is your reward. Cheers!

Near black, brown edges, good intiial head, slight lacing
Malt, bourbon, coffee in the nose
Delicious, very malty with vanilla and bourbon in there but not cloying or overpowering
Typically done as a RIS, mouthfeel is noticably thinner as a black ale but not a bad thing
I'll have more of these for sure.

2022. Poured from 12 oz can into snifter.
A: Pours a very dark brown hue with 1 inch frothy tan head with excellent retention. Leaves a nice amount of dark tan lacing behind.
S: Strong sweet bourbon aroma hits from a foot away. Upon closer inspection, smoked oak, molasses, dark roast coffee, vanilla, and a touch of sweet cream.
T: Dark roast coffee with cream hits first, quickly followed by sweet bourbon, oak, vanilla, toasted caramel, and a hint of molasses.
M: Medium body. Fairly smooth with a slightly creamy feel. Thick and darkly sweet.
D: An excellent base beer gets a nice bourbon barrel aging with some vanilla thrown in. End result is a very nice winter sipper.

Double Barrel Aged Double Shot Double Black (Heaven Hill and Buffalo Trace) pours black with a long-lasting, small, and massively lacing tan head. The aroma is not of barrel and vanilla, just a bit off. The flavor is big bourbon, with smoky cereal notes, with a beautiful coffee and vanilla undertone. Good body and feel. Overall, big complex beer, with noticeable coffee notes.

Pours out of the can a midnight black with almost no head, maybe I should have poured a little rougher. Smells like cocoa nibs, whiskey, and maybe a faint vanilla. Tastes pretty boozy, the bourbon barrels certainly did their job, but the rest of the notes seem to be overtaken by this. Nice rich mouthfeel that you would like this type of brew to have.

Pitch black pouring with a 1 finger tan head. The head retention is decent, and there's some lacing on the glass.
The aroma is a mix of whiskey barrels, coffee, vanilla and chocolate. All Aromas are pleasing, though, it doesn't seem too different than the regular DSDB.
The beer starts out coffee, as expected, with some heat from the whiskey barrels. The middle is chocolate and vanilla. The backside there's a pleasing hit of caramel that lingers on my palate.
The body is decent. There's a good deal of heat that comes in on the backside from the alcohol. There's also a bit of heat up front from the bourbon barrels.
This is quite delicious, but it's hard to see what the two types of barrel brought to the table.

12oz can. Unreadable dating stamp on can bottom.
Black colored body, with mahogany back lit edge. Brief lasting tan head. Leaves behind partial walls of lacing.
Aroma is roasted malts with chocolate, coffee, vanilla and bourbon barrel
Taste is roasted malts, with balanced flavors of chocolate and coffee. Added in are flavors of bourbon barrel, vanilla, and oak. Reduced bourbon barrel and more chocolate/coffee in the aftertaste.
Less than medium weight mouth feel. Slightly dry finish. Good carbonation.
Warming ABV% presence but no burning. Balanced flavors but has a definite bourbon barrel influence.

My wife likes this base beer so a four pack with this variant it is. 12 oz. can & hoping the extra two barrels adds some life to a listless base.
Black, like the stout/IPA it is? The nose is on mute: barrel, roast, vanilla. Muted all.
Double Shot Double Black – Double Barrel at least brings some character. The barrels are far, far, far more evident than the base (i.e. I can actually detect them without the Hubble Telescope). Moderate barrel up front with a backstory of roast, chocolate, vanilla, splinters of oak on the finish. The mouthfeel has always been a weakness; IPA it’d be good, stout it’d be thin. But one variant of this beast I could have more than one of.
The extra barrels kick this up a notch, but still below where I’d love to see it. Pretty good beer.

2022 vintage 12oz can with a illegible date code on bottle of can. Not a whole lot of difference between this and regular Double Shot Double Black but perhaps a little bit more barrel character. The bourbon is kicked up a little bit more with a stronger oak component with less coffee. But otherwise the same.

2022 can. Tan head. Dark brown, black color.
Massive coffee. Espresso. Lightly roasted. Caramel, chocolate, fudge cake, wet oak, vanilla, bourbon. Smooth. Warming. Medium to full bodied. This is sublime.
Has the classic imperial black ale feel, rather than a stout, and I love it.

Pours a thick dark mohogany color with a tan head,Aged 6 months in two barrels. Smell is barrel ,espresso and vanilla . Taste has smooth mellow bourbon that mixes nice with cold press and vanilla ,then notes of chat roasted malts and cocoa. Mouth feel mellow with whiskey sharp with cold prowess , a nice finish.
