this is certainly not the kind of thing these guys are known for, not at all, but after being super impressed with some wild beers they did recently, i was keen to try this kettle sour. pink guava, passion fruit, and tangerine in the mix here, tasty, but this is not my favorite of their beers, not at all. its almost flat from the tap, looks like a yellow lager, maybe just a little haze to it, but really no carbonation at all. the nose is tart and clean, definitely not overly soured or anything, lemony and quick, with the natural tartness of the passion fruit coming in at a similar pitch. there is some citrus character, maybe trace honey in the malt profile, but pretty light and simple overall, seemingly pretty well done, but also not real inspired, not as unique and compelling as their best. the flavors are all solid, i get all three fruits, plenty of guava, not too much residual sugar, and not zero malt, in that its still beer and not fruit juice. a little candied to me in the center, the tangerine seems to drive that vibe, but i taste all three fruits here clearly, maybe a little pineapple too, authentic enough but its always hard to tell with the tropical punch bowl. its fine in flavor, as in it works and i enjoyed it, but definitely a one and done for me, i want more life, maybe something more from the ferment, its just lacking the soul i know and love these guys for imparting into everything they make. modern and flavorful, but this is not a direction i am hoping to see bale breaker move in...
