another banger of a fresh hop beer from these guys. when i saw the name i thought they might have used pink hops in it, the hot new idaho varietal, but it sounds like its simcoe on the wet side, along with citra and chinook cryo, wonderful together, and maybe the lightest and easiest drinking of the beers i had here at the source, done with pils malt and rice in the mash, more hoppy beers should use rice to keep it light and let the hops shine, its a nice add to this, subtle but thoughtful, and it yields an almost delicate ipa in a way, quenching and i think it helps the freshness of the whole thing really pop. quite light looking, just a bit of grain color to it, average white head from the tap, slow fade, pretty clear but not perfectly so, dont think you want this sort of thing filtered or we may lose some of what we try so hard to gain from the fresh hops. aroma and flavor of lemon hard candy, less pine than i am used top from simcoe but still with a spruce type woodsy thing going on, sweet navel orange, mango, and a slightly estery thing happening as well, seems hop derived. not so intense or early onset, which are characteristics i normally attribute to cryo hops of any persuasion, a little less powerful in this one, which i reckon is a good thing for the fresh simcoe. as it warms it takes on a little fruity white wine note, hints of bee balm and danky sativa, and it stays dry and light on the malt side and on the palate overall, peppy and brand new, restrained in some ways but also distinctive, i love the sessionability this has, and the overall hop profile hits a lot of different highs in here, at times tropical and at others more northwestern, i would have loved to spend a little more time with this one. bale breaker is the king of the fresh hop beers for me so far this year, they have all been lights out!
