Pint at the Westside Taphouse in West Salem Oregon.
$6:00.
Pours a nice clear chestnut brown with a large frothy light tan head.
Aroma is really. nice..light milk chocolate, some floral hope and pipe tobacco.
Taste similar to the aroma. Definitely an American Brown..got some nice hopping.
Good mouth feel...medium body . slightly higher carbonation, keeps things flowing.
Excellent beer .on a fall like night

an absolutely fantastic, and underappreciated brown ale here. its rad that its organic, and it has a lot more depth of flavor than most conventional american browns in my experience. i pick up dark chocolate and cocoa right away, and it is a little darker than i think is the style norm, but its no heavier at all in the feel. light caramel in the middle before its dry in the end, i get a wheaty cereal flavor, although i am not sure what all is in the malt bill, it just presents itself as earthy and hearty. i also get light raisin and tobacco notes to this, right in the center, quite complex as they go, and really cohesive and good. i like a brown ale that i can drink by the pint, and this certainly does that. even without much yeast character or hops to it, i find it more complex than most other browns out there, and i love the malt complexion here, its next level. good carbonation from the tap, a body much lighter than it looks like it should have, and an almost addictive taste trajectory. my first beer from these guys, this is an instant classic for me!

edit: i see they are calling this b'ham brown now, for short i assume, but i believe its the same beer, even though they are double listed here on BA and i think the abv has varied a little over time. just had a pint downtown at bittercreek and its the same robust, darker, almost porter-like brown i recall here, so i suspect its the same beer as its always been. still impressively good, perfect for chilly late fall weather!

On-tap at the Collins Pub in Seattle, on to the beer:

An amber brown ale with a creamy head and just pretty to look at, Bellingham Brown is an excellent mealtime beer. The strong, nutty aroma upfront teases for things to be better, and it delivers. Unabashed, raw nutty flavors with a touch of toffee, not too sweet, riding in a medium body of delicious, made this beer a memorable one. Too bad it can't be found in Southern California.

A dark and rich brown with loads of roasted coffee and chocolate malts both on the nose and in the taste; if it wasn't called a brown I would have guessed it to be a porter or even a stout. Not a traditional brown but very good if you like a lot of roasty grains.
