Served On-Tap
A — Pours with a deep brown hue, some ruby red edges to it. There is an off-white colored head that sits atop the beer and leaves some mildly consistent lace behind it.
S — Smell is lightly sweet and largely malty, with a little bit of an odd spice component, richly sweet and malt focused.
T — Taste is strong, sweet, slightly bitter, an odd lingering spicy finish as well.
M — Medium bodied, sticky and sweet.
O — OK overall, not my favorite, a bit too sweet and has an odd spice component.

Had a glass of this at Anelia's in La Conner. It looks nice enough in the tulip glass, with a handsome ruby brown clear color and enough foam. Tasate is intense and bitter. It starts out candy sweet and dives immediately toward the bitter side. I can only think of Chinese medicinal wine.
Intensely woody and tannic aftertaste. There is some roasted malt flavor but it gets lost in the stampede. Brewery lists the hops as Cascade, Centennial, and Chinook. What do they do to make it so bitter? This is perfectly well made, so it's just a failure to use a decent recipe, and I don't know how some up and coming breweries get away with it.
