This American style stout keeps in tradition with the high volume of roasted malts used for flavor and color. Black, Roasted, and Chocolate malts are used for a roasted coffee bean, dark chocolate malt flavor. Balanced with Cascade and Centennial hops for a crisp, piney character that is neither bitter nor overpowering.

On tap at Vermont Tap House, Williston, Vermont.
The appearance was a nice deep dark brown very close to black color with a finger's worth of eggshell white foamy head that fell off as I sipped it. Lace speckled nicely, somewhat with a spider web sort of urge.
The aroma had a nice blend of roasted dark malts, light coffee bean, some dark chocolate nibs, and ended with a touch of cocoa powder.
The flavor was moderately sweet with an embracing edge of bitterness to accompany the balance nice enough to lead with coffee beans, a touch of some sweet licorice and then the dark chocolate nibs came back with the cocoa powder. Aftertaste was moderately sweet with a bitter embrace of the dark chocolate.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a slight sessionable sort of feel to it. I feel like I could drink several of these in a session. ABV felt good. Carbonation felt on par. Finish was semi-bitter, dry and absorbent; some roast, but really faint.
Overall, I liked this one as an American Stout. It's definitely one that I'd have again. Thank you Vermont Beer Sheppard for bringing this to Vermont!

16oz pour on tap at the brewery
A – Black in color, thin, surprisingly bright white head. Lacing left behind is a bit thin as well.
S – Pretty muted but there are notes of deep, dark roasted malts hiding in there. Get dark roasted malts and that's about it.
T – Light coffee and dark roasted malts come through here a little bit better. No real depth of flavor though unfortunately, light and crisp hop notes come through as well. There is a strong alcohol note as well which is a bit off-putting.
M – Light for a stout, drinks more like a black ale / cascadian dark ale without the hop notes.
O – A bit raw and flavors are undeveloped, malt profile is alright but this just comes across as too light in flavor and mouthfeel for a true stout.
