a neat and drinkable funky saison with oranges in it, really complex in a cool subtle way, a beer i almost overlooked but am so thankful i stuck around and dark at the place i was at, it was one of my favorite beers from my recent trip to washington. its very pale in color from the tap, and high headed too, aroma of light yeasty funk, a little doughy rawness and some wheat at the core of it, but bright with clean and fresh citrus, a juiced thing, softly sweet and fleshy, not zesty and piquant or bitter, and amazingly natural to me. the flavor of the yeast is great here, maybe a mixed fermentation, as there are some light pear and floral saison esters, but also some young bretty funk and even a little tang to it as it warms, likely a mix of fermenting agents at work in this. it comes together so well on top of such a simple and grounded malt base, its bright and alive, but also dry and unique, almost patient or something, if such a virtue can be applied to a beer. there is something about the fermentation profile here i just live, interesting but very drinkable, a rarity i think, and these guys have it dialed. i have been loving their saison types, and wish they came down to idaho. i cant get enough right not, and have been drinking all i see in my travels! this really is excellent, maybe more summer than fall, but there is no wrong time for a saison this good!
