2018 vintage. these little bottles of funky saison from aslan keep impressing me, this one is just packed with peaches, aged on oak, and nice and interesting and mature on the fermentation side, they should be proud of this! a bit of an orange color but an otherwise pale beer with a little haze, lively in the glass with over an inch of white head and lots of bubbles, incredibly pungent sour peach aroma to this, almost like a tart peach candy or something, i get all the tropical fruity glory of a new zealand sauv blanc, the ripest of peaches, a honey note from the grain, and some mellowing oak, really profound aroma and my mouth waters to taste it. the funk levels are high, the maturity of the beer overall is impressive, the oak tannins and richness are there, and the beer is highly refined, as awesome as all of this is, its the peach element that drives it and makes it memorable. few times in beer have i had peaches so pronounced and robust, yet in a dry and drinkable format like this. they almost singe into my tongue from the intensity, and i seriously taste this beer almost as fully when i wake up as i did before i went to bed, it has some kind of crazy peachy staying power. its juicy but also sort of candied, center of the tongue, but also palate coating, id be curious about what type of peaches are in this, its definitely distinct in the flavor. the sourness is moderate, not too acidic, the wood helps with that, and there are obvious white wine and additional tropical fruit notes as well, kiwi, mango, and guava to me. delicious beer overall, great carbonation, super unique. i love what these guys are doing and look forward to finding their beers every time i am in washington. these funky saison types have been on point!
