Das Boot is back! This year we brewed our seasonal Festbier with Smaragd, a descendant of Hallertau Mittelfrüh (a hop steeped in German brewing tradition). This hop provides a delicate floral and peppery note that balances the malt profile. The combination of Pilsner and Munich malt contributes flavors of toast with honey and fresh dough. This beer celebrates the coming of fall and is perfect for the upcoming cooler nights!

Handsome clear amber brew with plenty of foam. This seems to fit the Festbier spirit nicely. It's the Helles sort, and it's malty but not too sweet. There's a pleasant bite of hops to go with the warm glow of malt and even a hint of caramel. Aroma is cereal and pencil shavings. Lemony note in the finish, and just a welcome hint of bitterness and leafy greens in the aftertaste. Overall it's hard to find fault with this. Well balanced among all the flavors but refreshing and quaffable. From the 12 oz can purchased at Elizabeth Station. Dated 09/04/2024.

we wont let this das boot thing die as americans will we? hate the name, but i like how light this is, i like that its traditional but also introduces me to a hop i have not heard of before, and comes in a little more hoppy than a lot of the imports have been, but without being overly aggressive or anything, real nice beer, aslan sure does a lot of things well. this is immacutaley clear, frothy headed from the tap, soapy and lathery looking, and with great carbonation. lighter than most marzen types, just softly burnt orange in color. aroma here of baked biscuit, german lager yeast, clean minerality, and slight toasted nuts and toffee, but its drier than many, and the hops are minimal in the nose, so they are kind of surprising in the taste, not that they come out of nowhere either, but the rise up past the malt in the back half of this, herbal, a little bitter, some soft citrus to it, real compatible with the malt and yeast both, i had not heard of smaragd hope before this, hope to see more with it! super flavorful and drinkable, awesome clean lagering but with the right amount of flavor contribution from the yeast, ideal for session drinking this time of year. impressive specimen, loving the fact that we have aslan in boise now! this is a great festbier!

Beautiful clarity and color, they call this a Helles style Oktoberfest but I’d say by color it’s light amber. The head is impressive at first but gives way to just a ring of white with nothing in the center with no lacing present.
The smell is mildly toasty at first. Then I start start to notice a huskiness/grain to it and a mild hop presence.
The taste is similar to the nose but I notice more of the huskiness and grain. The hops again come out and add a little bit of spice which is welcoming. There is also a tea like quality to this beer.
Mouthfeel is really nice, medium but full body. Finishes pretty dry and there is a really low bitter finish. I could be perceiving the toastiness as bitter though, hard to tell.
