Brewed in the German Schwarzbier style, this is one of the most sessionable dark beers out there. This clean lager is fermented with an Augustiner yeast strain, and given its roast, chocolate character from dark wheat and carafa malts.

On tap at Sweeney's Ale House in Encino, CA.
Pours an opaque black with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, char, earth, and slight cocoa powder aromas. Taste is much the same with char, earth, and cocoa powder flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roast bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that is light and very easy to drink.
Serving type: on tap.
