On tap, listed as a smoked ale:
The beer is a deep brown, showing a chestnut color at the edges. Head is a thin film with medium enclosing boundary. Lacing is nice.
The nose is mostly absent, on firs sniff. This is disappointing- I was hoping for a decent whiff of smoke. A light peaty malt is all I get. With warmth and a good whiff, the smoke is finally noticeable - like a campfire long ago put out.
The taste, thankfully, redeems the nose a bit. An earthy base gets help from a light spice and a charcoal smoke that seems half char, half smoked malt. A little cherry wood pipe tobacco sneaks out front a quite prickly carbonation. Lingering roasty bitterness is medium light and has a hint of smoke. Fairly light feel to it, but a decent strength in flavor.
A decent enough brew that I wish had a little less carbonation and a little more in the nose. No trouble sipping this one with lunch.

Had this on draft at the brewery. I ordered it because they described it as having a strong smoked flavor (which was nowhere to be found). The beer poured a copper color with a decent sized head.
It's flavor had some caramel malt notes, but even those were faint and plain. Some slight sweetness or stickiness. Nothing present that would remind me of smoked malts. The hops added a nice balance to it's flavor. Yet, without anything smoked in it's taste, this beer was nothing close to what I expected it to be, or what they advertised it as in house. It does do a nice job of hiding it's higher abv, I would've thought it was in the 5-6 range.

Went to Columbus for the weekend to see family and friends so I stopped at the brewery. Having this beer on-tap. Bakeries to me in a s10 oz snifter glass, this beer draws a clear, medium to dark amber/copper color with a white head that's about an inch thick when first served that settles fairly quickly to a medium sized ring lining the inside of the glas with barely any lacing at all. Aromas of moderately toasted caramel malt sweetness along with an earthy, grainy hop bitterness. Also has a move rarely toasted, slightly bready, caramel malt sweet flavor that gives way to a somewhat dry, moderately bitter and dry, earthy and grainy hop bitterness. An interesting and very well balanced flavor profile here. Has a crisp, slightly prickly, also smooth, medium bodied mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Has a clean finish along with a fairly dry aftertaste, due at least in part l'm sure to the dry hopping that this beer underwent. A very nice take on this style.

Appearance - 4/5
The head is frothy and tan in color, approximately two fingers thick and hovers in the glass for a while. The lacing left behind in the glass is subtle as the ale is indulged.
Smell - 4.25/5
This German style ale has a smoky aroma with some under tones of sweet roasted malt.
Taste - 4.5/5
The smoky roasted malt flavors are robust and less sweet than the smell portrays it. I get a BBQ hue that registers on the back end. There is a back drop of bold hops that are slightly bitter in nature.
Mouth Feel – 4.25/5
Just shy of a heavy-bodied brew Chester Copperpot has a smooth syrupy quality that pervade throughout this ale. The carbonation is noticeable and tingles the tongue perfectly. I prefer a heavier thicker mouth feel to my beer which this does possess (Very nice indeed). The alcohol is hidden well behind the sweet smoky flavors.
Overall - 4.25/5
My experience with smoked beer is in its infancy. I’ve only indulged in two other smoked versions of beer and it was a split. I enjoyed an Imperial smoked porter but disliked the one rauchbier that I’ve tried. This is my first Altbier and one of a multitude of Seventh Son offerings that I’ve been tempted to evaluate. This offering from Seventh Son has complex flavors which are very pronounced, the alcohol is hidden well and the mouth feel is rich cascading play of smoothness vs. carbonation . I was pleasantly surprised and impressed with this Altbier and I would recommend it to fellow Ba’s. I will purchase this again most assuredly.

ein rauchig doppelsticke altbier - "a smoky double sticke altbier"
STICKE ALT, AKA:Latzenbier
"Shtick-uh ullt"
"A darker and stronger, seasonal, variation of the traditional Düsseldorf Altbier. Invented by the Uerige brewpub of Düsseldorf, it is brewed only twice a year and is ready for tapping on the third Tuesday in January and the third Tuesday in October, respectively. "
This is a very strong beer for the alt bier style, consider it a double alt.
Smell is very smoky. Pours a great amount of head like a good German style should. Taste is smoke that builds and becomes dynamic leading into caramel malty goodness. Good amount of hop bitterness to back up the smoke. Mouthfeel is medium and the smoke sticks around subtly with some dryness.
Got this in a trade from my partner in Columbus. Would drink again with a nice bbq or turkey dinner.
Prost!
