Reviewed from notes taken at the brewery in Vienna some years ago (I think 2015?).
On-draught.
No bubble show forms as it's poured.
HEAD: 1 finger worth of head height. White colour. Has decent creaminess and thickness. Leaves inconsistent uneven lacing on the sides of the glass as the head recedes. Head retention is average (~2 minutes).
BODY: Clear translucent pale copper colour; above average vibrance. No yeast/lees/sediment is visible iwthin.
Appears adequately carbonated. Not a unique or special appearance for an amber. Certainly doesn't look very amber for an amber ale, but I'm optimistic.
AROMA: Fresh pale malt/2-row, Munich malts, floral hop character, vague citrus aromatics, and a hint of fresh nectary hop character. Frankly, it has an aroma more fitting a pale ale and doesn't seem like an amber at all. Very committed to hop aromatics. Has that wort/fresh brewery smell common to beers from many new upstart microbreweries.
A pleasant aroma of mild intensity. Has no overt yeasty, boozy, or off-notes.
Clean and fresh.
TASTE: Pale malts, citrusy twang, floral hop notes, some confused pin e and nectary flavours. juicy hops, Munich malts. Definitely tastes like a pale ale instead of an amber.
Average flavour duration and intensity. Above average depth of flavour.
Nicely balanced with nice hop flavour. I like it but it's not true to style.
TEXTURE: Smooth, wet, overcarbonated. Too light in body. Clean. Could feel more fresh and soft. Fairly refreshing.
Not oily, gushed, hot, boozy, astringent, harsh, rough, or scratchy.
Has a decent presence on the palate. Suits the taste decently.
OVERALL: Drinkable and enjoyable, but far from world class. Definitely not an amber ale judging by stringent style threshholds, but enjoyable as a pale ale. I wouldn't get it again, but it's nice to see an Austrian brewery taking a stab at the style. A respectable but ultimately unremarkable effort.
