Reviewed from notes taken at a bar in either Germany or Vienna 3-5 years ago.
On-draught into a .3L glass.
No bubble show forms as it's poured.
HEAD: Half finger in height. White colour. Nice creaminess and thickness. Average (~2 minute) retention. No lacing adheres to the sides of the glass as the head recedes.
BODY: Dark murky hazy copper-brown of below average vibrance. No yeast/lees/sediment is visible within. Nontransparent. Quasitranslucent.
Not unique or special. Appears adequately carbonated.
AROMA: Wheat. Malty sweetness. Clean 2-row barley aromatics. Banana. Clove. German yeast is indicated nicely via the esters. Hints of fruity hop aromatics. The wheat is nice, but could be fresher and more evocative aromatically.
A pleasant aroma of mild intensity. I detect no booziness or off-notes.
TASTE: Wheat, banana, light clove, hints of vague fruity hop flavours, 2-row pale malted barley. The banana works well with the wheat. Balanced and enjoyable, though simple.
An effective no-nonsense weizenbock that lacks intricacy but has some subtlety. Average flavour intensity and duration.
Depth of flavour could be improved.
TEXTURE: Smooth and wet. Light to medium-bodied. Not too heavy for a weizenbock. Not too bready or filling. Well-carbonated. Complements the beer's flavours well.
Not oily, gushed, hot, boozy, astringent, harsh, rough, or scratchy.
OVERALL: Definitely drinkable. Hides its ABV well. I'll definitely finish the glass with ease, and would like to visit the brewery. It's a tasty weizenbock with lots of good characteristics. I'd get it again.
