From the 650 ml. bottle. Sampled on May 27, 2015.

Cloudy pale yellow pour with a big head.

Roasted pale malts but there is something a tad off. Buttery. Little in the way of hops.

The body around medium.

The taste recovers some. A hint of spice perhaps with the roasted malts. Bitterness at the end but more earthy.

New brewery from MA... had to try a few of their beers despite it not looking great.

Pours a nice fluffy fizzy 1 finger head that fades fairly quickly, mild lacing, hazy honey orange color. 3.75

Nose is pretty boring, light hops at best, little earthy herbal notes, touch of pine, quickly into Brett funk... yes Brett!!! a funky Brett B like nose, I hope it's not contaminated, or maybe my nose is since I just finished transferring a Brett Saison and brewing a Brett IPA. Hint of banana like esters and farmhouse funk. 3.25

Taste is better but still has some Brett in there. Not sure if that's what they were going for as it says nothing on the bottle about wild. Brett B funk, or a really crazy Farmhouse yeast at the very least, with barnyard funk, funky rotting straw, grassy and lemon grass, hay funk, and little sticky sweet malt. Hops bring a little grassy pine note, very faint citrus rind, earthy, mild bitterness. Finish is sticky but drier, little more funk, hint of orange rind, still mild bitterness. even if it wasn't for the Brett infection, this would be quite bland. The Brett infection actually brings this up a bit, despite that I doubt they were going for that. 2.5

Mouth is med bod, lots of small bubble popping carbonation. 3.75

Overall... I... umm.... really... just bad. There is an obvious Brett infection and since it says nothing about Brett I assume it's accidental. And, even without the Brett it's one of the most bland IPAs I've ever had. I'm really sorry this is from MA where we have such good beers these days. Sorry Howler Brewery, please take a look at your recipes and brewing process. I'll try the other beers I have and hope they're better, but otherwise I don't see this brewery lasting long at this rate. 2.5

A - Clear golden color, with large floaties. Poured very slow into a tulip.

S - Spicy hops, I detect ginger.

T - As I read previously, this brew has a very spicy character that seems more like a saison than an IPA.

M - Light and refreshing.

O - A fine brew, but certainly not what I expected. I would certainly recommend, but this is not for hop heads.

Golden-orange color. Thick foamy white head. A bit of lacing that last a few minutes. Not much aroma. Tasted of very faintly of hops. Not particularly bitter or malty. Slightly sweet and tart like a saison. The mouthfeel was a bit watery. It's drinkable but certainly not an IPA.

Overall a drinkable beer. The smell really smelled like banana candy and almost tasted like it. I did not enjoy this very much, it tasted almost like they used brettanomyces to brew this, and the hops were underwhelming and played no large part in the taste. Not the worst taste as long as you don't expect to taste an American IPA. Or any IPA.

22oz bottle purchased as a single from Trubeer, Easthampton, MA.

Poured into an imperial pint glass, formed a 3/4" off-white head over the clear golden brew. Frothy head lasts well, with lots of sticky, chunky lacing. Aroma is skanky hops, bananas, and some burnt rubber.

Taste is moderately sweet to start, peek of citrus in the middle, muddy earthy hops bitterness through the close. Mouthfeel is smooth, but the off-putting musty flavor quashes the drinkability for me on this one.
