I don't see any date code on the can or on the label.
Appearance: The body is black. It has a short off-white head that is a bit creamy in texture and a bit bubbly. No real head retention. There is a touch of sporadic lacing where the head recedes.
Aroma: It smells like burnt wood. There is a touch of pine and a light bit of bandaid aroma. It is not the most appealing aroma.
Taste: Up front there is a lot of clove, shortly followed by a burnt carbon flavor and then a light dash of cinnamon. Towards the middle of the mouth the beer has a bit of hot cinnamon which carries on to the back of the palate. After a while it picks up a bit of coffee flavor which is nice.
Mouthfeel: It feels hot when it comes to the spice and very bitter overall. The body feels medium-full bodied and strong in bitterness.
Overall: As a holiday beer the beer is alright; it has a good deal of spice and other flavors to give it some character. As a self-proclaimed "EGGNOG STOUT" it falls short dramatically. It really tastes nothing like eggnog. There is a ton of burnt carbon flavor with strong notes of pine followed by clove to give it a slightly holiday-themed edge. It is an odd bird. It wouldn't be something I would recommend to the average beer enjoyer, but it has a lot of spice and character which can be appreciated. For a holiday beer it isn't anywhere near perfect but it does a better attempt than most.
