Notes taken from February 2012. Amber ale with maple syrup? I would expect this offering to come from a brewery in Vermont or Quebec, not from a rented house in the south of São Paulo! André once again shared this one, and coming out of a 600 ml bottle. On to the beer:
Dark amber colored with scarlet hues. The size of the head is modest and it retains well too. The aroma smells very woody. Some earth pineapple bring the missing pieces to the puzzle. Yum! I was expecting the beer to have a succulent sweetness tasted, however my expectations and palate were thrown a wrench. Mad Beaver is actually very woody tasting. Notes of pine and some earthiness distract you away from the wood. With time, the palate adjusts and then the beer starts to gain a sweeter flavor, primarily in the form of toasted sugar. It's a medium bodied beer with well placed carbonation.
A different take on a amber ale, and excecuted well. Thst said, it did take a few sips before I started to get the hang of this beer.
