Bitter Unicorn Tears is a highly imaginary recipe that the fine folks at Tyler's Taproom and Deep River developed as a departure from the traditional IPA. An India Pale Lager (IPL) is like an IPA from a parallel universe. We use a lager strain of yeast in this beer and ferment it at a lower temperature which helps to highlight the hop flavor and aroma. We hop this beer with over two pounds per barrel of a blend of some of the most hard to get hops known as "unicorn tears" in the hop world. The unicorn tears mixed with rainbow shavings help make this beer highly coveted. No unicorns were harmed in the making of this beer.

Pours a hazy golden orange with a finger of foamy head that slowly dissipates to a thin ring with some lacing. Aroma of lemon and citrus with a trace of pine. Taste follows nose.

Look: It pours pale yellow with a white head. It has good clarity and good head retention.

Smell: The initial aroma is a funky, resinous barrage. There are also some grainy and bready notes in the background.

Taste: The resinous continues in the taste with some herbal qualities to it. There is a bready backbone to it. There are some citrus notes in the background as well.

Feel: It has a medium light body with a bitter aftertaste that isn't harsh, but is quite enjoyable.

Overall, this is a really interesting flavored beer that continues to grow on me as I drink it.

A big white foam lasts for the duration leaving thick lacing on a GrowlerWerks insulated pint. The best I can tell, this beer is pale straw and hazy.

The aroma is predominantly lemon with orange zest and a light pepper background.

Unsurprisingly, this beer is bitter. Actually, a bit overwhelmingly bitter. Otherwise, all I could detect was lemon.

The satin texture and medium body are followed by fizzy carbonation. The alcohol is as expected.

This is a crisp Summer beer, ideal for a hot, sunny day. I enjoyed it out on a covered porch while P-52 Mustangs put on a show overhead. This is a very relaxing way to let ones' concerns melt away.
