Appearance is deep red/brown. Dark fruit on the aroma, with some clarity. The flavor is even more complex. The dark fruit is just the beginning. Apple, bourbon, and a prominent maltiness dominate the taste along with the dark fruit notes. A nice balance between dry and sweet. I don’t have the most experience with Scotch Ales, but this one is solid.

Look: It pours with some ruby highlights and has a tan head. Head retention is excellent.

Smell: It has a strong caramel and smoky aroma. There are some dark cherry notes in the background. There are also some herbal elements as well.

Taste: It has strong caramel and bourbon elements initially with an herbal element in the background. It also has low dried cherry elements in the background. There is a very low hint of smoke.

Feel: It has a medium full body with smooth alcohol warming.

Overall, the beer is malt forward with some esters in the background and other enhancing light elements.

L: Had this on-tap at Brewmasters - Wilson, poured into a snifter glass. Had a dark, mahogany brown color, and a murky, opaque consistency. There was a half inch of creamy, off white, fairly long-lasting head. Average lacing.

S: A fair aroma of of malt, caramel, bourbon, wood, and an earthy quality.

T: Tasted of a moderate amount of the eponymous bourbon (and the accompanying barrel), a good shot of malt (present throughout), light caramel notes, and some of the earthy quality. This flavor isn't quite what it could be. Some of its elements are a bit light and thin. Could've used more of the advertised bourbon.

F: A decent amount of carbonation with a smooth finish. Medium-bodied.

O: Definitely an uneven beer, but it has some good qualities nonetheless.
