12 oz. pour on draught at Beer Study in Chapel Hill, NC. Served in a plastic cup. It pours a deep mahogany color with almost a finger of foamy, light mocha head and lacing. The nose includes roasted malt, chocolate, peanuts, freshly-brewed coffee, and the distinct smell of port wine. I have to say the taste is unique. The port barrel influence is quite strong and adds a rich sweetness. Conversely, the peanut butter is not obvious at first; it becomes readily evident only when the Stout warms a bit. There are rich notes of cocoa and caramel that balance nicely against the fruitiness of the port barrel. The bourbon influence is on the subtle side although you can definitely taste it. It's a complex palate and most enjoyable. The mouth feel is moderately thick and creamy with lite carbonation, and you can feel the 12.8% ABV. It's a sipper. Overall, this is a very good Imperial Stout. I enjoy the original and this variant is a treat.

12oz can poured into a snifter

A- pours black in color with a one-finger khaki colored head that reduces to a ring around the edge

S- port is definitely noticeable on the nose, with aromas of vinous red grapes, black cherry, chocolate and stewed berries. Undertones of oaky bourbon, red licorice, figs and caramel

T- as with the nose, plenty of port to be found; jammy berries, vinous red wine, figs, cherries, dates and raisins. Mid-palate brings out sweet notes of chocolate and caramel, as well as a hint of vanilla. The finish is more port barrel, that continues into a sweet, berry-like linger

M- medium body with moderate carbonation leads to a slightly foamy mouthfeel that continues into a bit of a thin finish

O- the base beer is fairly mild, giving way for the port barrel to really come through. One of the most port-forward stouts I've had
