Pours a clear hazelnut brown color with an ember hint in it, together wirh a huge, bright, beige head.
Smells of smoked ham, wild honey, more smoke, bread crust and a lactic hint.
Drinks fairly smooth with a late dryness, light and entertaining on the palate with a prominent smokiness.
Tastes of bread crust, toffee, toasted nuts, a hint of earth and prominent smokiness. Not sweet at all, although the foundation of this is definitely defined by the malts, which is due to a pungent dryness, which adds to the smoke. Finishes dry, with lots of herbs and a balancing earthen maltiness.
Very nice, less sweeter than expected with a huge amount of taste defining smoke and a surprising herbal dryness in the finish.

From the half liter bottle, it pours a reddish amber with a moderate, but nice head. A touch of smoke in the nose. The mouth follows the nose. Lacing as the beer is consumed. Yum. Difficult to get (it took me three trips to Germany before I got it), but I am glad I did.

Poured a hazy, red-amber color with creamy, tan foam that settled slowly. The smell was a very nice smokey aroma reminiscent of ham; strength of aroma somewhere between the Rauchbiers of Spezial and Schlenkerla. There was also notes of grain and malt in the nose. The taste was smokey with moderate, lightly sweet malt. Flavor on the thin side. The mouthfeel was medium bodied, dry, with moderate carbonation. The aftertaste was smokey and malty with a touch of fruitiness. This was an OK Rauchbier, but not a standout.
