Pours a dark orange-red color with a big, eggshell colored, fluffy head.
Smells of caramel, toffee bonbons and dried herbs, together with a copper note and bread crust.
Drinks very smooth with an effervescent, refreshing finish, while the beer drinks great - crisp and light.
Tastes way more rustic, with lots of whole grain bread and toasty malts, than the nose indicated. There is a toffee maltiness detectable, but it adds beautifully to the balance in this, instead of dominating the flavors. A short peak of dried berries enhances the malts, gently toned down by the mineralic carbonation and dry, old herbs.
Looks beautiful, with a head which stays for ages, smells good and tastes remarkable - my first beer of this brewery and this is a homerun. Very flavorful and well composed, while at the same time, the beer maintains its bright, easy drinkability.

I served it a little warm to myself (62 degrees F) as evidenced by the resounding "Pop!!" and moderate foaming as I opened the bottle. I found it at the Lichtenfelser Bauernladen a short walk away (at the Saeumarkt) from the Bahnhof (train station) in Lichtenfels. Enjoyable beer!
Tried it again at the proper temperature: Head was appropriately sized, the beer was still a clear dark amber and the flavor was top shelf. Yum!

This beer poured a hazy, dark amber color with white foam that settled to a thin coat on the beer and clung to the glass. The smell was grainy and slightly vegetal with a hint of hops. The taste was moderately malty with some caramel flavor and mild hop bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel was dry with medium-light body and moderate carbonation. The finish was caramel malt. This was OK. The bottle was 6 months old, so perhaps not in the best condition (though it was obtained at the brewery on the day I drank it).
