Brewery calls this a "Dry American Stout." Dark brown color with golden glints. Plenty of carbonation poured into the tumbler. Watery sensation with a little body. Grains and wine in the nose. Plenty sudsy in the mouth.
Warm and malty. Rather strong grainy taste with some burnt oatmeal. Something that tastes a little tannic. Alcohol taste is stronger than you might expect. Quite a bit of the chared flavor along with some acidity. The hops are not that much in the foreground, and I find the claimed 50 IBU a little unlikely.
The sweet malt provides some relief from the sharp and burnt flavors, but this is a more austere and serious kind of stout. From the growler filled at the brewery in Temecula.
