Rather murky appearance, with a brownish amber and modest foam in the Piraat tulip. Poured from the 32 oz jug filled at the brewery in Temecula. Supposed to be brewed with sage and juniper berries. A collaboration with Mammoth Brewing.
Initial taste is sweet and malty. Flavors are a little herbal with a slight bitterness at the finish that grows into a bitter aftertaste after a few sips. You'd think the Belgian yeast would tone down the seeetness, but there's just a little dry yeasty business, too little and too late. Overall it tastes like a new malt liquor made with fruit cocktail. Not any worse that the couple other Eisbocks I've tried, but I think this is a style of beer that needs some outside-the-traditional-box thinking.
