Attractive clear dark red-amber color in the Brewery Vivant tulip. Seems like the carbonation is more coarse than average, and there's even a little of the club soda taste.
Fortunately the juniper is pretty subdued, but there's a whiff in the aroma, now that you mention it. This is a little on the sweet side. Not much Belgian character, though there is a slight drying tendency. There seems to be a little aromatic hop flavor but it's more dark fruit juice. I find a little of that odd jujube fruit taste too.
Overall, this has a pleasant spicy, aromatic flavor and is quite drinkable. I wouldn't hold it up as a paragon of the Dubbel style, but it's interesting as a Belgian yeast brew from yet another micro. From the 32 oz growler purchased at the brewery in Temecula.

On tap at Refuge Brewery in Temecula, CA.
Billed as brewed with juniper berries.
Pours a hazy orange with a foamy khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Thick swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of toasted malt, caramel, and slight spice aromas. Taste is much the same with pepper and spice flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is an above average beer that is drinkable but the flavors are pretty subdued.
