Notes from 08/18/13 - 4oz taster
A: The Entropy Porter pours a murky blackish-brown that reddens as you move towards the edge of the glass. An almost burgundy of sorts with a half finger topping of khaki cream that is slow to dissolve leaving behind some light ribbons and dots of lace.
S: Opens with rich dry roast espresso beans supported by some mild chocolate notes. There is a nice layer of roast malt and toasted cereal built in to the aromas as well that complement. Very nice with lots of espresso character.
T: Much like the nose the taste leads with espresso beans and some light cocoa and all supported by a bit of dark malted cereals. There is a very mild bitterness to the beer and the alcohol is not detectable. All in all a very nicely balanced beer flavor wise with some nice rich dark roast character.
M: Lighter to moderate feel with a very smooth and creamy texture given the oat additions. It is a touch thin and watery but does not detract from the overall enjoyment. Small drying in the finish. Very smooth overall.
D: A tasty Porter with lots of developed espresso and chocolate flavors. A bit thin and light actually makes this a little more drinkable than say a big stout which can be nice depending on the mood. Solid beer.

On-tap at the source, on to the beer:
This porter is ink black in color with a hue of brown at the bottom of the glass. An inch of beige colored head sits on top and leaves a great helping of lace around. The aroma consists of tasted grain and some roast, not bad as it stands. The potential is realized in the taste which makes up for the aroma. There is a note of roasted espresso which paves the way for a gentle rush of hops. There's some pine and a "clean" sensation brought by those little green flowers. In terms of hop flavor, it's more at pale ale level than IPA, yet there's plenty of porter base to remind you that this is a porter. Hoppy and a little roasty in the finish, coupled with a smooth medium body, helps make this porter a good beer for many functions.

Billed as brewed with oatmeal.
Pours a clear super dark crimson-brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to a small cap on top of the beer. Foamy streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, toasted oats, and cocoa aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa and citrus zest flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of roasty and hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is an above average beer that is drinkable but seems unrefined to me.
