Notes from 08/18/13 - 4oz taster
A: The Asylum IPA pours mostly clear with a golden yellow hue. Thin layer of bone white foam on top that settles out to a ring around the rim of the glass. Some meek lacing of just a few dots and streaks here and there.
S: Caramel malt sweetness fills the nose with undercurrents of spiced grapefruit and a some grassy herbs.
T: Leads fairly sweet with some caramelized pale malts however not cloyingly so. Good mix of grapefruit zest, grass, and earthy spice. The beer has a nice hoppy citrus zing and there is a moderate amount of perceived bitterness there while the alcohol is kept well in check. Really nice balance overall. Not a total hop bomb and not a dry crisp West Coaster but still pretty enjoyable.
M: Moderate fullness in body with a nice creamy consistent feel. There is soft puckering bitterness and a nice drying effort towards the finish. Nice balanced texture.
D: Nice IPA with decent balance and drinkability overall. A touch on the sweeter side but with good hoppy citrus flavors. You get the sense hoppy beers are not their focus but this one is not half bad. Would have again.

Pours a clear light orange with a foamy bone head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, citrus fruit, and citrus zest aromas. Taste is much the same with citrus and pine flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that is tasty and easy to drink.
