Dark amber, a little hazy, with a nice foamy cap for a while. Some lacing in the wine glass. Tart and spritzy mouthfeel. Boozy, yeasty, and grainy aromas. This batch has 9.8 ABV.
Some raisiny flavors followed by the drying Belgian effect. Caramel with bitter candy taste. A mineral aftertaste, quite dry, with a fair amount of bitterness. Workmanlike brew without much distinguishing character. Still, it's clean and has just enough of the yeasty flavors and strikes the high ground between sugary and overly dry.
Some dark notes for the aftertaste. Interesting sipping but way powerful. From the fancy swingtop 32 oz growler bought at the brewery in Temecula.

Notes from 08/18/13 - 4oz taster
A: Muddled copper look with some orange and brown hues. Half finger of light khaki suds with decent retention
S: Caramel toffee malts and Belgian yeast spice blend with dried figs and a touch of citrus. The classic clove, banana, and bubble gum are present but not overwhelming as you get with some Belgians. Very nice and inviting.
T: Firm dried dark fruits and a toffee malt poised sweetness meld with subtle Belgian yeast flavors of clove, banana, and light bubblegum. There is a tail of dried citrus peel coming through and low amount of perceived bitterness to the beer. The alcohol is incredibly well disguised at 9.8% ABV and not even very noticeable here. Really nice balance to this one, very smooth with nice flavors.
M: Moderate body weight leaning towards the heavier side with a seemingly lower amount of carbonation. Nice creamy texture and relatively clean on the finish.
D: A tasty beverage with really nice balance and great flavors. Rich toffee and dried dark fruits. Not terribly thick or heavy on the palate and not overly spiced which I like. Would recommend.

Pours a hazy copper with a foamy khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of toasted malt, brown sugar, and spice aromas. Taste is much the same with dark fruit and spice flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that tastes better than it smells in my opinion.
