What a gem! Laid back vibe, cozy, and all profits go to charity. Nice selection of taps, and the burger I had was delicious. Worth seeking out just to provide back to the community

 

 

 

 

Cool place on the inside. I dig the unfinished log shelves and the bar itself, which is beautiful. A portion of each sale goes to a liberal charity. Food was average, service probably a little below average. Beer selection had 12 very good selections on tap. I had Loo wit Flat Track Blonde from Vancouver, WA.

 

 

 

Much has been made of this non-profit neighborhood pub in both local and national media; it's a very cool concept to have "giving" in mind with every pint purchased (you're asked to choose from among 8 local charities when placing an order, benefiting everything from children to animals to education to trees). BA magazine has touted it at least twice, including the most recent issue.

My wife and I have visited several times since the May 2013 opening (it's just a mile or so from home), most recently yesterday (New Years Eve) late afternoon. The pub consists of one half of the ground floor of a two-storied building at the heart of the Woodlawn neighborhood, a block from Breakside Brewery. The front of the interior has plenty of windows and sturdy tables for groups of 4 or more; tall-backed booths line one wall and a lengthy wooden bar fronts exposed brick on the opposite one. Towards the rear is a play area for children and a spacious section with several couches and a flat screen (tuned to the Blazers - OKC game on this evening). There are also several roomy picnic tables for times when the weather is a more pleasant. Vibe is warm, friendly - finishes include many historic touches, wooden trim and vintage light fixtures and bulbs.

The process is simple: order food & beer at the counter, pick your charity, grab a seat, food arrives (always friendly, though occasionally imprecise - like the funny time when my cheeseburger arrived fully-dressed, but sans meat!), bus your glasses and dishes when finished. Most of the staff are volunteers, as I understand it, so as to keep costs lower (they do keep any tips), which has allowed charitable donations to exceed $15,000 in only 7 months.

Beers are a nice mix of local and regional taps, around 20 in all and rotating frequently. Yesterday our chosen pints were Georgetown (WA) Porter and Lagunitas (CA) Sumpin Sumpin Wheat but Oregon/local things abound. Choices also include a cider or two (Portland fave Reverend Nat's is always in the mix) and a gluten-free bottle or two (again, local - Harvester 22s). Several wines, too. Pints are "proper", prices a reasonable $4-5.50 usually with a couple stronger/smaller/rarer pours a bit higher (a barrel aged stout from Natian or a Duchesse de Bourgogne, for example).

Food is quite good, tasty sandwiches and soups, with several Happy Hour specials (daily 2-6pm!). A "must have" for us every visit are the sweet potato tots with spicy banana ketchup, but the pretzels and fondue were very good too. Reasonable prices.

Not the type of beer list to make the geekiest swoon, but a solid mix of styles - add that to warm "neighborhood" atmosphere, friendly service and good food and you've got a winning formula for a pub we'll keep returning to for years.

This place is incredible. Great beer, great food, amazing atmosphere, and any money made off my purchase goes to the charity of my choice. What the???

Amazing tap list. These guys seem to really know great beer. Awesome food selection with really great prices. Can't wait to go back.
