I noticed their brewmaster studied and was schooled in the art of brewing in Germany, and was employed as a brewer in Germany. Hence, the styles of beer offered at Gunpowder Falls.
Surprisingly the selection of draughts available were only 4 on tap when we were there. There were a few other styles available in cans to go, but not many.
Not sure if they just had a major event that wiped out their supply or what.
That said, the beer I tried was pretty good.
Of the 4 styles available, the Pilsner was my favorite.
And my wife ordered an appetizer, cup of Garlic Shrimp Pasta, which was outstanding.

A lager only brewery focusing on German styles. This is where we're at in the American craft beer scene, and I think it's great.
I have had a few beers from this brewery and both were good and on the level, which frankly surprised me. The brewery is housed in a large building complex, which gives you a rather subdued vibe upon entering. The interior fits the exterior, which is kind of a letdown. It would be nice if they spruced up the place to match their passion for what they are doing. Regardless, there aren't many places doing only lagers, so this is probably worth a visit if you are feeling adventurous. It's 40 minutes north of Baltimore if that makes any difference to you.

Really glad I stopped by. Had been recommended, but first time I made it. Note that my GPS POI for Breweries sent me to the wrong location "by name", but had no problem " by address".
I was especially interested in going to a "lager" only brewery. Let's face it ales make up a huge majority of the craft beer movement. So having a chance to go the Reinheitsgebot route and try some well laid down bottom fermenters in South Central PA made for a great change of pace. The German Style Pilsner was very good, and their seasonal Marzen was nice as well. I was particularly impressed with their Dunkel. All three were very well made lagers. Very clean and refreshing. With a slightly different setting I would have thought I was sipping some very nice Biers in Bavaria or Swabia.
Personal note..."Hofbrauhuas" in Abbottstown should be selling their beer.
Had a good time with Lisa, Tim and Adam. Lisa really knew her stuff, and you could pick up the pride and excitement they have for their beers.
Will look forward to future pit stoops at Gunpowder Falls.
