Gray on black can, interesting artwork, no production date but it tastes very fresh.
It does say "Traditionally Lagered Baltic Porter".
The beer is clear but only with strong sunlight behind it. Deep mahogany brown with slow, steady carbonation and a pale tan head that does not fade, leaving spatters of lace to the end.
Aromas of fresh coffee , syrupy molasses, notes of smoke and boiling brown sugar with just a hint a sour sweat.
Dark and chocolate malt characters shine, dry burnt grains mix with the roasted and caramelized in a 'we are the world" kinda wonderful way.
Flavors mirror the smells - roasted coffee dipped in chocolate, rich stone fruit flavors blend with sharp pepper and grass hop bite while the 8.5% alc stays in the shadows ( chanting about death??) until the end where it helps round up the other rich flavors and warms them on the way down. Slightly astringent and sharp on the tongue
Body is full but not heavy, dominant character is sweet but not cloying and the hops play a perfect supporting role, leaving a great peppery aftertaste along side the warm smolder of the alcohol.
This one drinks like a 7% and hits like a 9 iron. Would be a perfect substitute for a Cabernet with a grilled Rib Eye.
Great job. #robustportersrock
