Oily black with clingy tan head. 4
Dark roast, fig, and slight herbal dankness. 4
Lean roast, hit of maple wood, sugar, some licorice root, fig, and a dank leafy hop end. 4
Sweet dark coffee end and dry, cedar finish.
Full, smooth, chewy. 4

A thread of maple sweetness, so the label works. Fair whack of hops, too, and lots of roast but can’t say I get the lactose. Three big elements rather than proper integration, but still nice. 4.25

660ml bottle bought from Neill Wines, Groomsport

Poured pitch black with no hint of colour even when held up to the light. Burnt brown head poured incredibly thick and foamy with very small bubbles and a meringue like topping... a good one finger of foam remained throughout.. some thick lacing lines...

Aroma - Lots of sweet and lightly roasted chocolate malts backed with caramel and light maple, coffee, toasted nuts - hazlenuts mainly, quite earthy, some faint citrus notes, liquorice, brown sugar, honey notes, some light smokiness...

Taste - Milk chocolate up front followed by light coffee and sweet maple notes, roasted malts, cocoa powder, some light smoke just coming through, dark fruits (black cherries and currents), nut brittle, treacle / molasses, warming alcohol is just noticeable..

Feel - Smooth and velvety with just a little sharpness underneath... full bodied... pretty drinkable for a 10% brew although becomes quite sweet towards the end...

Overall - An excellent example of an imperial milk stout and one of the best collaboration brews i've had. Definitely recommended...
