A 330ml bottle with a BB of Oct 2018. Purchased a while back from the Yorkshire Terrier in York. A collaborative brew between Weird Beard and the London Amateur Brewers, the label describe this as an Ice Cream pale ale. The ingredients include oats and lactose for body and sweetness, in addition to cocoa nibs and vanilla. Hopped with Perle and Aurora.
A: Poured into a tulip. Bottle conditioned. A deep, hazy amber hue with intense carbonation and fine suspended sediment. Produces a huge head of creamy white foam with good retention; this slowly reduces to a persistent surface layer. Some lacing.
S: Aroma of sweet fruitiness with hints of white berries, subtle tropical fruit, light citrus zest, hay, lactose, earthiness, vague pale malt and a twinge of vanilla. A bit muddled but not bad.
T: Tastes of subtle aromatic hops with notes of sweet lactose, berries, mild citrus zest, faint tropical fruit, hay, earthiness, pale malt, a hint of vanilla and a harsh twang in the background. Sweet and creamy, followed by a delicate bitterness upon swallowing.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with spritzy carbonation and good body. Creamy; verging on unctuous. Aftertaste of lactose, aromatic hops, vague leafiness, pale malt and a faint bitterness.
O: Interesting, though an odd blend of flavours. Looks great, while the aroma and flavour are a mix of sweetness, fruity aroma hops, pale malt and faint vanilla. Nice body. Drinkable but slightly strange - I can't help thinking that a more focused character would be an improvement. Worth trying if you can still find it.
