300ml bottle bought online from Ales By Mail
Poured a light mahogany nutty brown colour. Nice creamy tan head poured very tight, thick and foamy with a whipped meringue like topping then faded fairly quickly to decent thick covering. Faint carbonation... some light lacing...
Aroma - roasted chocolate malts, light tobacco notes, strong peppery and grassy hops, roasted (maybe slightly charred ?) nuttiness, strong nutmeg spiciness, some faint anise, woody hints, some dark dried fruits (raisins and currents)...
Taste - Big grassy and earthy hop bitterness up front followed by lots of (charred) roasted malts, some pine notes, spicy dark fruits (raisins, dates, plums), dark chocolate, light smokiness, roasted nuttiness, light treacle sweetness, the 7.2% alcohol is pretty noticeable...
M&D - Pretty sharp and dry... medium bodied... Pretty drinkable although the hops maybe become a little harsh after a while..
Overall - A pretty decent brown ale although i prefer mine a little more malty than hoppy...
