This is our Pitch Black ale, aged on organic cherries, in Vermont Spirits bourbon barrels for 6 months. We then refermented the beer with Brettanomyces and aged it for another 6 months. Fuzzy has smooth roast and oak flavors blended with subtle notes of dark chocolate and cherry pie. Crisp and dry with tart, almost sour finish.

This one pours a fairly dark black color, with a small head, and not much lacing.
There's a lot going on here, and it's maybe slightly clashing - there's smoke and roast, vinegar and acidity, cherry skin, and a biting funk.
I like the concept behind this one, but it's a bit much. It's got a stale sourness and a little bit of vinegar, but the cherry is nice, and there's some decent oakiness. The smokiness seems to have intensified slightly with age here, and there's a nice roast character.
This is lighter bodied, and slightly creamy, and it's definitely a slow sipper, due to the intensity of flavors.
I like the creativity here, but I wanted this to be better.

Okay wow. I thought this was a variant of their Gose and then it comes out dark. Interesting aroma and the taste is outstanding. Great balance between the dark malt of their pitch black, the cherry, the sour and the bourbon. All are present but know smother the others. This seemed like a difficult marriage but they did an outstanding job. I now have a new favorite from lost nation, I hope they keep brewing it.

2018 "handwritten" looking bottle. Is it? I actually don't know. Just know I got this from Beverage Warehouse.
This was poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a mostly dark brown close to black color topped by a slim little off white foamy head swiftly gliding off. Some messy lace.
The aroma, initially smells like show leather, yet clean and showing a conglomeration regarding a blend of flavors becoming intertwined in a way most people would want. There's the roastiness flowing into black currants and a pushed back bretty sour character. Black cherries and dark chocolate thicken to dry everything out.
The flavor leans into the roastiness of that "Pitch Black Ale" quality I remember then brings in clean sour to tart black cherries, coming across dryly and smooth with a clingy aftertaste of black leather, black cherries, roasty toast-like dark character.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a mostly sipping quality about it. Pretty dry all around that I have no qualms of saying this should be gulped - totally foolish if one does. The finish has some black currants, black cherries, shoe leather and smooth roast, slightly clingy.
Overall, this is an American black ale transformed into an American wild ale and done extremely well. So spectacular to watch some college hockey regionals and sip this beast!

Thanks Yanik.
Hazy, near black body with a frothy cap. Interesting aroma...bourbon, oak, pine, brett, funk, balsamic, wine tannins, chocolate. Cherry and bourbon character. Medium alcohol presence. Complexity. Unique and definitely worth trying. Fun.

Moderate pour yields a 3/4 inch off-white, pinkish tan head over a dark brown/mahogany body with some lacing. Nose of cherry, oak, slight funk, and even slighter caramel and vanilla from the barrel. Taste mirrors nose with the cherry flavor up front and in your face! As this warms, the oak comes forward magnificently. Nice feel and overall, a sure fire winner from the boys of Morrisville, VT. Cheers!!

Growler. Cork almost killed someone. The lightest pour yields a growing, aggressive doughy mess of a head that ends up standing over 3 inches high. It sits atop a black body. The nose is a beautiful catastrophe. Dark fruits that have become evil with tartness. Oak with a ton of smoke and peat. Dark malts. Flavor is a cacophonous. I am really digging peaty flavor, it is very pronounced. Smoked, tart cherries. Dark malt and burnt malt. Leaves a fuzzy feeling on your tongue like tannins. Finishes with a heavy bitterness that makes the cherries and mushy fruits run scared. This was certainly a wacky beer. I enjoyed it and was perplexed by it. Not for the faint of palate.

The beer offers a combination of balsamic tart, funk, medium cherry, a roasty quality and an acrid, almost smokey, bitterness on the back end. A really well done dark sour.

This is a spectacular dark sour. The Bourbon barrels give it some great depth of flavor with the sour cherries giving some nice brightness. I often don't care for sour beers that have cherries, but this is really really good.
