Collaboration with 3 Floyds Brewing Company
When Three Floyds comes knocking at your door with a half barrel of Alpha King asking to do another collaboration... you say yes. This time around we brewed as standard strength Belgian style Quad with D2 sugar and some yeast the Floyds stole from Belgium.

awesome brew, not sure i would call it a quad, as its not nearly big and rich and sweet enough, and if there is a belgian yeast strain in here, its awfully mild. it is delicious though, sort of reminds me a less rustic and complex madragore from BFM, although i would take that one over this one in a second. it has a rich dark mahogany color, short lived quarter inch of tan crema on top. it smells like tasted grain, short of roasted barley, no bitterness at all, but its not sweet either, so id like to know more about the grain bill. its really well done. it tastes like a shorter boil too, things arent all caramelized here, although they seem to be moving in that direction. what i taste the most of is dark fruit, dried bing cherries, prunes, even figs, but the beer isnt fruity in the traditional sense of belgian yeast, which is why i have to assume it was fermented pretty cool for a belgian type, and it really works for the feel of this beer, which is dry but fluffy, almost chalky in its residual feel, but somehow really thick and rich still. its confusing but its delicious. off color has impressed me, i wish more of their beer made it out to colorado. cool that its a three floyds collaboration too, we never see their beer!

So this is nowhere near being a quad. Somebody misnamed this bad boy.
It's more in line with a well-crafted stout.
If you've had the great fortune of having a Southern Star Buried Hatchet Stout, then you know what this beer is about.
No Belgian yeast, candy sugar, or carbonation that you'd associate with a quad is present. Just a yummy, toasted malt that makes me think of autumn days and hazelnut chocolate.
Nowhere near being true to the style, but all the same a beautiful beer.
Quad? What were you guys thinking??? Stout? Now we're talking!
