a unique gose here with french grey sea salt and lemon peel, and a somewhat more interesting fermentation profile than is common in these. instead of just a front end lactic thing, its got a little funk, a bit of saison character as well, not quite a phenol but an ester, some green pear, and some light sweetness, its distinctive for sure, but still is obviously a gose, off color is so good at doing that in their beers! the salt is high mineral, there is a light olive brine thing, a green olive sort of vegetal aspect too, and some real tang. the lemon peel makes it fresh and zesty and zippy, but also a little bitter, which is an interesting layer in a gose. the wheat malt has some light honey sweetness to it, but is dry by the end. a little yogurt sort of funkiness and twang, maybe even a little bretty thing going on, but young to me. i love the pucker, its just right for this, and there are stone fruit and white grape layers here as well. i wish it was more carbonated, its not still but its not as lively as the flavors seem to want either, and with the sourness it drags in texture just a little bit. more effervescence would make this amazing. the flavors rule though, this is subtly unique, and really good. i love off color, they dont seem to get enough credit for being one of the best, they really are. great take on the style here, but all their own. nice with spicy curry whole fish!
