Notes:
The non-barrel aged portion of our Oud Bruin blend (Staveyard), slighty tangy with dark malt notes of cherry pie. Light in body, this base beer is designed to showcase aged character when blended but on its own is a light and nuanced beer.
Malts: Vienna, Dark Munich, Biscuit, Dark Crystal
Hops: Spalt
Special ingredients: Boiled barrel staves, Lactobacillus

Pours a dark amber orange, tan "amber ale" foam that rises fizzily, then quickly recedes to a thin ring.
Smells of dominant yeast and some mild crystal malt sweetness, toasted bread crust.
Taste is malt forward and bready, slight cherry tartness, yeasty, mild honey in the finish.
Medium bodied with some malt heft, ample carbonation, dry finish with a slight yeasty aftertaste.
As a blending beer made to be aged, I see it's purpose. As a standalone beer, it's a bit lacking in character as an Oud Bruin. I would draw a style comparison to young lambic, in that the barrel bacteria and wild yeast haven't had ample time to develop it into a mature beer yet. As a simple "Flanders-style brown ale" it works, and I suppose that's what it is, but also a pre-barrel, pre-blending component in a somewhat rudimentary state. Thanks to Thomas for this one!
