Notes:
A collaboration with Metropolitan Brewing.
A blend of 70% traditional German doppelbock lager, 25% native fermented Flemish style ale aged in Calvados foedre for one year with pressed apples, and 5% American wild ale aged in Cabernet Franc grape must. All refermented with Balaton cherries and wild yeast then double barrel aged in a mix of second use bourbon barrels and Pomegranate Fox Wild Ale barrels for an additional 3 months, Phew!

Opaque brown pour with lighter edges, tan cap. Aromas of musty cherry, caramel malt, earth, toast, apple slices and oak, weird together and stay separated. Complex and fascinating taste: tart cherry, musty grape, caramel malt, some basement funk, apple, toast, earth, lemon zest, bourbon, a hint of balsamic and molasses. Feel is medium bodied with a slightly thinning and decently drying finish with a kiss of must, sourness builds over time. Unlike anything I have had before, a wild doppelbock I guess. More interesting than good

Draft at Metropolitan, served in a .25cl tumbler. Thanks to Jenny & Thomas for this one!
Dark brown, thin cap of foam that recedes to a skim with some spotty lace.
Acidic aroma, some dark malts, faint cherry. Smells vaguely like an Oud Bruin.
Aggressively sour, not a lot of barrel character, sour cherry comes out as it warmed up.
Medium bodied, puckering and dry in the finish. Body feels a little thin from the acid.
Overall it was disappointing that all of the barrel treatments didn't really assert themselves.
The malt base and cherry elements were nice, but would have worked better with less acidity and more body.
