Secret Technique: Evaporating hop oils

TASTING NOTES
Beer for Lounging revolves around the balance between bread crumb malt and subtle hints of grapefruit, orange rind, and pear. A dry finish and moderate alcohol content makes this the perfect companion to your next lounging activity.

SECRET TECHNIQUES
Most pale ales get most of their hop flavor from dry hopping (or adding hops directly to the fermenting vessel). A full range of hop essential oils (flavor intensive natural oils) are transferred into the final beer when the hops are added to the cool beer. Among these hop oils is myrcene (pronounced mehr-sen), which is the most potent of all hop oils and is responsible for freshly cut grass flavor in dry hopped beer.

Beer for Lounging utilizes a method called hopbacking, which runs hot, but not boiling, grain sugar solution (or wort) through a bed of whole cone hops. The hot wort removes almost all the myrcene oil, which volatilizes at 147F. So only the more subtle hop oils carry through to the final beer and leaves out the lawn clippings.

Nice lager for a Saturday afternoon or evening with a nice hoppy taste that lingers a bit after the swallow. I have a poor sense of smell, so I won’t comment on that part of the experience. I am a fan of heavy hops, and this falls a bit short, but the overall effect on my papillae was more than satisfactory.

From a tall aluminum can, this beer is a lightly hazy gold color with a puffy white head. The aroma is earthy, hoppy, and fruity (citrus peel). Full flavor...malt sweetness up front, fresh hop flavor, flowery, solid bitterness. Full in body and satisfying. We need more beers like this one.

Draft at Shakespeare's South. Poured a clear, golden orange color with a small, white head of foam. It left sudsy lacing. It smelled of citrus, caramel and toffee. Sweet citrus taste with toasted caramel and a mild bitterness.

Very slighly hazy copper color with a respectable and lasting white head with some nice lacing. The aroma is fresh biscuits, citrus and pine.
The taste is grapefruit, tangerine, fresh biscuits with a hint of honey, and a touch of caramel, very slightly sweet. The finish dries out with lingering citrus zest and pine resin, moderate bitterness, very nice balance.
The body is light/medium, very good carbonation, smooth and very, very drinkable.
Altogether, this is very tasty and refreshing, also light enough for a session, great for cooling off and enjoying summer activities, or inactivity, outstanding.

maybe a beer for lounging if you buy a pack or two cause damn this is crushable. dumped into a tulip cause its what i had, this is a nice golden orange brew, with a hint of haze but not like that ya know. a frothy white sudsy head rose up and took its time going away.
the nose has a nice grapefruit/lemon rind and pine hop aroma coming through with some balancing breadiness and a hint of funk. flavor profile is the same with a wonderful citrus peel, fresh grapefruit, pine and a lil dank mix with some sweet honeyed biscuits and a tinge of lingering yeast. theres enough sweetness to keep the bitterness in check and i would drink 6 of these on a nice long afternoon for sure. medium-light bodied and well carbonated so it just seeps down. great pale ale for sure.

16 fl oz. can, no date. "American Pale Ale" Off Color Brewing ventures into familiar territory for perhaps the first time ever. Definitely the closest I've ever seen these guys come to brewing an IPA. Brewed with Cascade whole cone hops according to the can.

Poured to a Duvel tulip snifter.
Beautiful pale orange color, finger of frothy soapy white head, lots of chunky sediment in the glass. This looks just excellent.
Herbal, earthy, piney. Bready malt presence is noticeable.
The pils malt comes through wonderfully, adding a perfect touch of honeyed sweetness. Super crisp, creamy, & well balanced stuff.
Super light, fluffy, crisp, creamy, super easy drinking stuff.

16 oz can into a pint glass. Slightly hazy effervescent golden color with a long-lived foamy white head. Doughy malt, pine, mandarin orange on the nose. Smooth malt flavor balanced with mild hop bitterness and sweet orange citrus. Medium bodied and buttery smooth mouthfeel. Very drinkable
