Had this on-tap at Northdown, as I believe it was created specially for their Berliner-focused event. Served in a tulip.
A - White foam settles to a thin cap, thick collar, and splotchy lacework. Hazy peach body with a pinkish tinge to it.
S - There's a light tart cherry note, but this lacks the fruit intensity of some of John's other fruited beers. There are some buttery diacetyl notes that I think may be a result of the limited time frame Off Color had to produce this beer. Malt sweetness is a bit more pronounced than I'd expect for the style.
T - The flavor is an improvement, shedding the buttery notes and delivering the expected Berliner-type flavors. Wheat, light lactic acidity, tart cherry skins, and a mild herbal note that I can't exactly place. I'm thinking the base is unspiced/unsalted Troublesome?
M - Crisp, dry, medium body with good heft for the sub-5% ABV. Light residual stickiness and more chewiness than some of the other Berliners available. Carbonation feels a bit low for the style.
D - A bit of a letdown compared to other Off Color Northdown exclusives. This one feels rushed, and I suspect it may have been. Would like to see John take another stab at it, as I think a bit more time aging would clear up my major gripes.
