White Ranch Wit is my go-to when visiting the Mountain Toad Brewery. This beer comes with a sweet and fruity citrus aroma, but the actual sweetness of this beer is staged relatively mildly; which is pleasant because I don't usually enjoy sweet beers. When I first sampled a sip of this beer I was once again grateful how Mountain Toad Brewery offers their beers in pitchers.
The flavor of this beer has a hefty citrus edge to it with clear and present wheat tones. If oranges grew from kegs, this would be the fruition within. It has a hoppy undertone, but a mild one at that. Pours hold that inherent cloudiness of witbier while displaying that familiar bright and sunny color. The lite carbonation in this beer is to my personal liking and aligns more parallel with carbonation levels found among Stouts and Porters. It has a thin, but creamy flow and beckons a little more than just sipping... to the point you'll more than likely decide to get the 4-pint pitcher; which is well worth the asking price. I visit this brewery a lot and this beer has been around all seasons. It's great in the winter around their fire pit or even better in summer after a perfect day of tubing Clear Creak.
Cheers!

had higher hopes for this one. for one, there is no need for it to be as strong as it is, i really see that as a negative in this beer, especially with all the body and leftover sweetness, they need to scale the grain way way back to make it right i think. i do like the hop profile, and the yeast is pleasantly fruity with it, but there are a few things off the mark. i wanted more carbonation, it feels so heavy and sludgy without it, a wit should never be flat, and this one is. its a shame too, because when i get past all that, it actually tastes really nice, white pepper and lemon grass are there, and there is a bright lime sort of hop thing too, quite different for a wit, but it works. unfortunately though, it just feels so heavy and bogged down with the sugar and the stillness that its hard to drink even one of them, especially when i was seeking a refresher after some outdoor activities. others in our group liked it better, but i was relatively unimpressed.
