Lookout Brewing Co.

Small brewery a block off the main drag on the east side of town. L-shaped service bar opposite and to the left of the entrance. A few tables about the room and in the parking lot patio. 10 beers on tap. Friendly bartender. Lively local crowd.

Stopped in here a few weeks ago while waiting for my takeout pizza order to get ready across the street at Fresh. My buddy and I each had two rounds while we waited. Interesting selection of beers they brew and some guest taps. Decent amount of indoor and outdoor seating options. We will be back next time we need to wait for the pizza oven to finish!

Found this place tucked away off the main street of Black Mountain. Was able to relax a couple hours in the shade on a hot, sunny day, although I did hog the big indoor fan for a couple minutes. Moderate selection of styles of their beers and the beer I had was pretty good. People there were chill and the server was nice so even during this pandemic this is a place to chill at.

 

Cool little place hidden away in Black Mountain. Good selection of their own beers, takeout only in crowlers no cans/bottles. Woman behind the counter was helpful/friendly and knew their products well. Went with the Milk Stout, we'll see how it turns out.

 

 

 

A cool little chill spot if you find yourself in Black Mountain, and I would not have a problem returning here in the future. And as others have mentioned friendly people. However, with only limited experience with their beers, my opinion is t hat if you're looking for a place with really outstanding beers, you may want to look else where.

 

Nano brewery with a lot of passion in the beer. Small bar, tables and some comfortable furniture. Nice outside area with tables and chairs, weather permitting. Mostly locals, bringing the small town vibe into the tasting room.

This is one of the smaller breweries we visited on our trip, using a glorified homebrew system to supply the taproom. A tiny yellow sign on the door was the only indicator we had found the right place. Doors were open to let some breeze blow through the place. A petite bar in the corner supplied beers to about a dozen locals. I got the sampler (as always!) to try the lot, and really thought the taster set was cool: a wooden triangle with a labeled poker chip in each glass slot to tell you what the beer was. Now there wasn't much information about the beers (styles) on the chalk board behind the bar, so I did have to ask a few questions. The Spicy Hippy and the Session IPA were both very pleasant beers, but I have to be honest I really didn't like most of the rest. I hate to be too critical of a new brewery, but I wasn't a huge fan of the beers overall. On the other hand, I think the locals were having a great time and seemed to really love this place, a feeling that can improve the overall vibe of a brewery. Hopefully they can get some more consistency in their brewing over time, since there are hints of potential there. Still a fun little stop.

Not sure about frisbee golf on a big screen but the place was cool

 

 

 

This places does not look like much, at the end of a tiny strip mall. We went in at opening time on a Sunday and had a good time. Got a few flights and they turned the game on for us. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable, we talked a lot about the local beer scene and places to visit. No food here, but I would recommend a stop to check out their brews. The Cherry Pale was good as was their IPA. It is in the Black Mtn area which is 20 minutes outside of town, but a very cool area.

 

 

 

Lookout is in a mini-strip-mall type place about two blocks from the intersection of US 70 and NC 9. As others have noted, it's a very friendly place. It's fair to call it a nanobrewery, though they have just increased their capacity. We had a great time talking to their A-B Tech intern Sarah. I think we tasted everything they had on (we only paid for six, but as we chatted, Sarah just kept setting out new stuff for us to try). My favorite was their Hanky Panky Pale Ale - I think it was my favorite Pale of the weekend, and I probably tried 8 or 9, including Pisgah's in a can after I got home. We also really enjoyed the Mother Pucker Sour Stout. That one apparently gets a wide range of reactions, but the batch we tried had just a hint of sourness that lent a lot of interest to the brew. Their Dark Town Brown was about the best Brown Ale I had through the weekend as well. The others were solid, though I felt the IPA was a little weak.

All in all, if you're in Black Mountain, Lookout is worth a visit.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The atmosphere is very friendly. Both patrons and brewers are always approachable and its hard not to make a friend during even a short visit. It is not far from Pisgah Brewing and is also walking distance to the downtown/touristy area of Black Mountain, NC. They brew on a 1/2 bbl brew system and ferment in plastic barrels in a cool room. The recipes are solid, but there are some major inconsistencies. The first time i tried their year-round IPA offering, Black Mountain IPA, it was terrible. The second visit (different batch) was a glorious West Coast style in-your-face Amarillo Hop bomb. Then, third try was a sink pour.

They don't serve food (popcorn for bar snacks only), but they allow outside food and have tables. There is also a patio with a fire pit. Every live band i've seen there has been really cool. Kid/dog friendly.

Its not the best brewery in area, but worth a try.

Quiet little spot in Black Mountain, just down the road from Pisgah, on the way into Asheville.

Visited during a blackout by way of woman crashing into a telephone poll and were the only patrons over the course of an hour with the exception of 1 regular. The owner was very friendly and proud of the craft. They had a nice Pisgah collaboration IPA on tap and a variety of other beers including a DIPA, pale ale, a bizarre sour creation and a few other standards.

Clearly a nano and a little hit-or-miss based on my observations, but a friendly place for sure.
