Poured from a bomber into a shaker pint, the beer is a vibrant, deep, ruby-copper coloring with a sparse surface coating of off-white head. Aromas of richly sweet toffee and caramel, with a highlight of smoke and earthy peat, some roasted notes, and candi sugar highlights. Pretty rich and heavy nose. Flavors are heavily roasted, with a richly sweet forward blend of caramel, chocolate, toffee, and candi sugar, all balanced by the solid earthy tones and subtle smoke/char. The palate has some floral highlights, as well, to help lighten things up a bit. The body is robust and smooth, with a subtle edge from the carbonation. The aftertaste is all rich sweetness, heavy on the toffee and chocolate. Smooth, slow, layered and lingering finish makes this one a sipper. Good beer.

Had on tap. Blackish brown body with a tan head that disappears quickly. Smells smoky more than earthy, heavily toasted caramel, burnt nut and crusty brown bread yeast. Taste is so smoky and roasted, way more than called for in a wee heavy, booze leakage too, woof. Feel is hot and smokey, in a style that calls for smoothness and a less heavy handed approach

Not a very complex palate and quite thin, not enough of peaty smokiness.Just lacked depth in flavor and body.
