Not a typical marzen style beer, but not bad. This brew seems a little bitter for an Octoberfest but is still drinkable. If you are looking for a more traditional Octoberfest beer I would recommend : Victory Festbier, Goose Island and Sam Adams.

There's nice smoky, roasted notes. The aftertaste has a kick of bitterness. The feel is not too heavy, a little more bubbly than I prefer, slightly less carbonated than soda. It's not as sweet as my go-to Ocktoberfest from Sam Adams.

Clear sparkling honey-amber with a fuzzy, lumpy khaki foam settling to a bubbly collar.

Smell is wheat and white bread with corn and grass.

Taste is softly toasty malt and corn cut by slightly metallic, astringent pine and bitter grass with hints of white grape skin.

The lightly crisp light body finishes semi-wet.

Its always a great time, that one time each year when the zircus comes to town. And the beer that's featured by this most popular fall festival seems in capable hands with the Hi-Wire brewing team.

Golden in color, turning a light amber through the center, the mostly bright Zirkusfest crowns with a frothy ecru cap that endures most of the session. Nutty, toasty and lightly floral, the nose tilts heavily toward the Germanic malts and with a delicate hop nuance. Malty sweet with a caramelized grain flavor washes the tongue with the softness of honey.

As the sweetness relaxes, the more toasty elements of malt remain and confidently gains the reigns of the middle palate. Nutty with pecan, bread crust and a nearly rye-like spice, the taste reveals a broad grain flavor with an earthiness before the hops step in to provide a mild, grassy, peppery edge to take the heat off of the malt.

Medium bodied, the linger of caramel keeps the taste siding with a richer version of Oktoberfest beer although the overall session is crisp, malt forward and quite refreshing. Trailing with a mild minty alcohol taste, Hi-Wire's season festbier is a good but standard beer compared to other American versions on the market.

Bottled on 7/13/17. 12oz bottle poured into a tulip. Pours golden with some haze to it; small white head that fades leaving nice retention and nice lacing. The aromas have hints of corn and caramel. Malts are there. The flavors are bold and crisp. It has some earthy notes. Moderate bitterness. More caramel leading the way. Some fresh bread and crackers in the mix. Malts do their thing. Finishes clean. Alcohol goes unnoticed. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied with moderate to active carbonation. It's smooth and easy to drink.

This is a nice Oktoberfest. It's bold, clean, crisp and refreshing. The craftsmanship is on point. It's fun to drink. Well done.

Appearance: Fairly hazy, deepened amber-tan body with a thin, thinning, white head.

Smell: Bready, biscuity nose with a thin glaze of treacle for hints of sweetish, spiced apples.

Taste: Crackery and biscuity, but also a tad bready. Touch of sweet treacle. Slightly floral, fruity (again, apple). Lightly bitter. Faint hint of nuttiness late in the flavor. Drying finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.

Overall: So-so.

12 oz bottle in a lager glass.
Pours with a clear copper colored body and a decent off-white head.
Mix of earthy-herbal hops and malts in the aroma and flavor. Clean, well-crafted and true to style, if slightly more bitter than average. Medium body and carbonation.

From the 12 oz bottle in a snifter. This fest pours a clear amber tinged golden color
with a decent head of white foam that subsides to a thick ring, thin light pool, and
shows sparse lacing. Nose of moderate grain notes, light caramel, light honey, and
an ever slight hop note. Flavors expand on the nose with grain heavy notes touched with
caramel and sweet honey malts mingling with a light floral note and light zesty hop note on
the rear of the taste. Decent mouth feel; medium carbonation that is lively and effervescent,
medium light body, and a sweet grain touched finish.

Overall, a decent fest but I am somewhat amazed this was a 2016 GABF winner.
